NSFA, Panacan, Davao City – In response to the unfolding situation at Masara, Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom), in collaboration with APEX Mining and local authorities provides the following update on the ongoing rescue and relief efforts following a devastating landslide.
At approximately 00:15am, the rescue operation was halted under the direction of Congressman Ruel Gonzaga, Acting as Incident Post Commander, due to hazardous conditions and the deteriorating situation on the ground.
Out of the 86 employees initially reported trapped, 45 have been successfully rescued, with 3 individuals in critical condition requiring urgent air evacuation. Meanwhile, 42 individuals remain in an evacuation area, currently inaccessible by vehicle.
Efforts continue to locate and rescue the remaining 41 individuals, as declared by Apex Mines.
Additionally, 86 families, totaling around 600 individuals from the neighboring communities, have been evacuated to safer locations. However, there are reports of unaccounted individuals believed to be affected by the landslide.
The roads remain impassable, and there is no cellphone signal in the area. Emergency communication teams from the 1001st Infantry Brigade, 10th Infantry Division, have already been deployed already establish radio contact within the affected vicinity and Temporary Command Posts (TCP).
The 25th Infantry Battalion established a Tactical Command Post (TCP) at Tagbaros Patrol Base while the 1001st Brigade is coordinating efforts at the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC) and the Provincial Incident Command Post, providing leadership assistance in disaster management.
Rescue teams from 10ID, 1001st Brigade, 25IB, and 60IB are on standby in various locations near the incident site.
A total of 14 military vehicles have been mobilized to support rescue operations, alongside other vehicles from various organizations and agencies while sufficient heavy equipment from Apex Mines is on standby, awaiting the optimal conditions to resume clearing operations.
Operations are expected to be resumed at daybreak with the deployment of rescue and retrieval teams.
Helicopters will be deployed for the air evacuation of the three critically injured victims.
EastMinCom under LtGen Greg T Almerol, Commander, in coordination with all involved agencies and Apex Mining, remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals affected by this tragic event.#
